German bikemaker BMW Motorrad on Wednesday announced the launch of its lowest-capacity models, the G 310 R and the G 310 GS, in India. With price tags of Rs 2.99 lakh and Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively, the newly-launched models become least-priced BMW motorcycles in the country.

The company already started bookings for these motorcycles over a month back for an amount of Rs 50,000.

“These bikes will captivate the fast-growing sub-500cc segment and bring new customer groups to BMW Motorrad,” Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said at the launch.

Showcased at the Auto Expo 2016, the BMW G 310 R roadster was one of the most awaited motorcycles in the country while it’s adventure version was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Both the mid-segment bikes have been developed in collaboration with India’s TVS Motor Company. While the bikes were engineered by BMW at its design centre in Munich, they are manufactured at the Indian partner’s Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu.

The entry-level BMW models take design inspiration from bigger BMW bikes in their respective segment. The G 310 R takes design cues from the S 1000 R while the G 310 GS looks inspired by the other GS series models.

Both the bikes are powered by a new 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out 34PS at 9,500rpm and a peak torque of 28Nm at 7,500rpm.

The bikes are capable of doing a 0-50kmpl sprint in just 2.5 seconds and have a top speed of 143kmph, Pawah told.

Features of the motorcycles also remain almost similar like wide tyres, front inverted forks, rear monoshock suspension, front and rear disc brakes, and anti-lock braking system (ABS). However, the BMW G 310 R gets a raised suspension setup, higher seat, half-front fairing, dual-sport tyres and other changes for better touring capabilities.

Pawah said, “the all-new BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS come with a standard warranty for three-years/unlimited kilometres.” There are also options to extend the warranty for the fourth and fifth year for an additional cost.

The G 310 R and the G 310 GS are available on finance schemes through BMW Financial Services India with all-inclusive monthly instalments starting at Rs 6,999 and Rs 7,999 respectively. It also includes roadside assistance (RSA).
